The YCMBT is honored to be a part of the conservation efforts and marine research and enhancement programs that are in operation all over the state of Florida.  Each year this tournament donates to worthy organizations and programs, supporting their cause and efforts.  With in the last ten years alone, we have awarded over $350,000 to marine enhancement programs in the South Florida area. We thank all the event supporters that help to make this possible. 

The Billfish Foundation $5,000
This scientific organization funds billfish research to ensure a stable future for these amazing creatures. Our donation funds the International Tagging Program, which distributes tags and tagging information to fishing tournaments and clubs worldwide. Our tournament's logo is featured on all printed materials and we receive letters of appreciation for the tags from all over the world. (954-938-0150)

The Nature Conservancy $3,000
This gift will help support the Conservancy's Volunteer Stewardship Exchange (VSE), a service that connects volunteers with conservation activities that match their skills and interests. The VSE has particular success preparing volunteers to assist research scientists studying the marine environment.     (305-289-9060)

Florida Sea Grant $1,500
This organization is working towards educating the boating and fishing industries to reduce marine debris and increase awareness of its impact on the environment and economy. These funds will pay for Used Fishing Line receptacles.  (305-361-4017)

International Game Fish Association $2,000
This organization keeps world records and historical artifacts and data on fishing worldwide. IGFA also established and upholds ethical angling standards for world record and everyday catches. Our donation will be used in their Circle hook/live bait research project.  (954-941-3474)

The Officer Snook Program $2,000
This program focuses on educating the youth on water pollution prevention. It incorporates other priority issues, including aquatic and marine ecosystem education and environmental sustainability. Our donation will pay for printed materials for students and educators.   (305-672-7675) 

Capt. Harry Vernon, Jr. Scholarship Fund $4,000
This newly established scholarship fund has been created as a dedication for the late Capt. Harry. The scholarship is awarded to a worthy student studying billfish conservation research. The GMBT award is matched by Capt. Vernon's wife, Joan. This year's scholarship is awarded to Mike Feeley,  studying at University of Miami Rosenstiel School.   (305-361-9258)

Guy Harvey Research Institute $7,500
This scientific research organization was formed as a collaboration between the artist and the Oceanographic Center of Nova Southeastern University. Our donation will be directed towards biological scientific studies and research for the restoration, enhancement and biodiversity maintenance of the world’s wild fish resources.  (954-262-3600)    

Coastal Conservation Association of Florida $2,000
An affiliate of the national CCA, the CCAF seeks to protect and conserve Florida's marine resources. These funds will be used to protest against "No Fishing Zones" in Biscayne National Park .   (407-672-2058)

Youth Fishing Foundation $2,000
This organization was established to introduce fishing to underprivileged children in South Florida. Our donation will be used to purchase fiberglass tanks for their aquaculture display.  In addition, as part of our annual event, we sponsor Youth Fishing Day where inner city kids get the opportunity to board a boat and experience the joys of fishing.  (305-235-4883)

National Coalition for Marine Conservation $2,400
The NCMC is the nation's oldest public advocacy group dedicated exclusively to conserving ocean fish and their environment. Our donation will be used to assist in the www.savethefish.org expansion efforts. (703-777-0037)

CEERI $1,500
The Center for Environmental Education and Research provides education programs to the public and community to help ensure our environment and waterways remain safe and clean, as well as teaching safe boating. This donation will be used to reproduce their very successful Boater 101 educational student booklet.  (954-730-7707)

Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, Inc.  $500
This non-profit station is dedicated to rehabilitating and releasing injured seabirds in the Biscayne Bay area, focusing mainly on Brown Pelicans, which are on the threatened species list. Our funding will purchase necessary veterinary supplies.   (305-751-9840)

Florida Keys Marine Laboratory $3,600
Located in Layton, the Keys Marine Lab facility hosts 100 marine research and education projects yearly. The facility offers dorm style housing, boats with operators, experiment holding facilities, wet & dry labs and collecting assistance to off-site researchers. The lab facilitates research in this unique and delicate environment. These funds will be used to purchase marine equipment or vessel.   (305-664-9101)

 

The Education Fund (IMPACT) $3,000

The Ed Fund encourages the development and dissemination of innovative classroom curriculum by teachers, provides material resources to classrooms, improves libraries/media centers, promotes information and computer literacy among students and their families, and fosters teacher leadership in schools.  These funds will help to sponsor marine conservation projects.

Save the Sea Turtles $500

Our donation will fund an awareness effort to notify people of sea turtle habitation in their area through door hangers detailing contact information of the Save the Sea Turtles organization and mission.  Save-A-Turtle is a volunteer, non-profit organization formed in 1985 and dedicated to the preservation, protection, and enhancement of endangered sea turtles and their habitats throughout the Florida Keys.

UM Hatchery $2,580

In continuation of our support of the Research Center for sustainable fisheries, the YCMBT grant will used to purchase microcatode oxygen electrodes needed for the billfish research project.  (305-361-4941)
